Lobster in Ballet

Original mosaic

Date

June 2023

Dimensions

62 x 42 cm

1,500 €

This lobster is adorned with its finest finery, a pearl necklace and a tutu to join the banquet. It is its last chance to shine in a ballet dance before being devoured by fervent gourmets.

This is a tribute to the American artist Joseph Cornell (1903-1972), a specialist in the art of assemblage, who composed “A Pantry Ballet” in 1942, where he depicts lobsters wearing black pearl necklaces and white tutus.

Materials used:
Tail: Italian Smalt
Head and legs: Recycled glass (cake plate)
Back and tail end: Recycled ceramic (kitchen tiles and plate)
Arms: Mexican tiles
Tongs and blue background: Glass paste
Tutu: Fiberglass mesh, used for wall mosaics
Background: Velvet and lace. For the first time ALSo mixes fabric and mosaic in a work.

Custom-made American box.
